A security scroll nut is a special precision locking nut used primarily for the axial securing of roller bearings and spindles. It belongs to the group of precision nuts defined by DIN 981 and is frequently used in mechanical engineering and toolmaking.
Security scroll are characterised by a particularly reliable and reusable locking mechanism. In this system, locking pins are pressed against the shaft thread using set screws. However, the axial forces are absorbed exclusively by the thread flanks, whilst the pins serve solely to prevent rotation. As they do not deform in the process, the nut can be used as often as required without losing any of its precision. Even when the generously dimensioned adjusting screws are tightened only moderately, a high locking force is generated, which serves solely to secure the assembly. Neither are the thread flanks relieved of stress, nor does the nut undergo any deformation.
Thanks to the three locking pins evenly spaced around the circumference, the security scroll can also be adjusted precisely and at right angles. This allows for the reliable compensation of any deviations or inaccuracies in other components on the shaft, making it a highly precise and reliable solution in mechanical engineering.
