Ball screws for the largest WFL turning-boring-milling centre
When workpieces up to 14 metres in length, 2 metres in diameter and 80 tonnes in weight are to be machined with the highest precision, it takes not only extraordinary machines – but also extraordinary components.
For what is currently the largest multifunctional turning-boring-milling centre from machine tool manufacturer WFL Millturn Technologies, our ball screws are deployed, which are specially tailored to the extreme requirements of the “M200 MILLTURN”.
Custom-made ball screws for maximum axial loads
The ball screws feature a specially matched pitch that enables the use of larger ball profiles. This allows higher axial loads to be accommodated without requiring additional installation space. At the same time, the service life of the axes is increased, and the machine benefits from a compact design and optimal power density – a combination of precision, durability and efficiency.
The “Mega-MILLTURN”: Complete machining in new dimensions
The M200 MILLTURN sets a new benchmark for the complete machining of large components:
- Machining of workpieces up to 2 m Ø, 14 m in length and 80 t in weight
- Tools up to 1000 mm in length and 50 kg in weight
- 180 tool slots in the standard magazine
- Tool change at any Z-axis position
Whether chuck parts, long shafts or aerospace components – the Mega-MILLTURN machines all workpieces precisely and efficiently.

Backlash-free axis movement thanks to ball screws
The ball screws used convert the rotary motion of the drives into linear motion without backlash, dynamically and with high repeatability.
Advantages:
- Precise positioning of the axes for complete milling and drilling operations
- High speed with low energy consumption
- Low friction, which minimises heat generation
- Reliable tool guidance, even under extreme loads
In this way, they make a decisive contribution to the efficiency and precision of the large machine.
Technological partnership on equal terms
The collaboration with WFL is based on mutual trust and technical expertise
Peter Kammerer, Managing Director of Kammerer Gewindetechnik:
“Fitting the Mega-MILLTURN with our ball screws is an important step in our cooperation with WFL. The machine specifications allow us to tailor the spindles precisely to the requirements and manufacture them to the highest standard.”
Franz Reichhart, Head of Purchasing at WFL Millturn Technologies, adds:
“The collaboration is characterised by efficiency, professionalism and a clear focus on quality. Together, we have achieved outstanding results. We very much look forward to future projects.”
Conclusion: Precision components for precision machines
The specially developed ball screws provide a key component for one of the most powerful machining centres in the world. Higher axial loads, a compact design and high precision ensure that the Mega-MILLTURN operates reliably even under extreme loads.
The combination of custom design and robust construction impressively demonstrates that even with the largest machines, every detail counts and quality makes the decisive difference.
