At the same time, they ensure that lubrication is maintained and wear is minimized.

Depending on the application and environmental conditions, various types of wipers are available.

As standard, a plastic wiper is used, typically made of POM or PA, or for food applications, from FDA-approved materials. Plastic wipers offer a wide variety of variants and are available as rings, two-piece designs, or segment wipers. Cost-effective production through injection molding for series production or with 3D printers for individual pieces provides economic viability even for small series. They prevent the ingress of coarse dirt particles while allowing a certain degree of lubricant leakage. In addition, plastic wipers offer high strength, high toughness, low friction, excellent wear resistance, corrosion resistance, and acid resistance.

Profiled felt rings or felt cord are perfectly suited for environments where small, abrasive, or otherwise problematic (e.g., oil-absorbing) dirt particles occur, as is the case in grinding machines or woodworking machines. Furthermore, felt wipers also form a lubricant reservoir, but must not be contaminated with cooling water.

Double wipers consist of two sealing lips arranged in sequence and can be made of plastic-plastic or plastic-felt combinations. They are also available with a non-contact metal wiper disc for protection against coarse dirt.
Double-lip wipers are primarily used in applications with problematic contamination without water content. However, a disadvantage of double wipers is that they increase the length of the ball nut.

We recommend replacing the wiper after an appropriate operating period of the ball screw drive, if possible, to positively influence the service life.

Wipers provide reliable protection of the ball recirculation path against dirt, dust, chips, and other foreign particles that can significantly impair the function and service life of a ball screw drive.
